Strato Dessert Cocktail

Equal parts pick-me-up and tuck-me-in, this layered cocktail is the perfect conclusion to a holiday celebration.

¾ oz. cold-brewed coffee
½ oz. simple syrup
1 oz. heavy cream
1½ oz. Fernet-Branca
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: double rocks
Garnish: grated nutmeg

Combine the cold-brewed coffee and half of the simple syrup with a drop or two of the heavy cream in a shaker. Shake. Pour into a double rocks glass over a single large ice cube. Add the Fernet as a float on top. Whip the remaining heavy cream and simple syrup. Float the cream on top of the Fernet and garnish.

Tip: To make nicely defined layers, make sure your ingredients are well chilled and pour the Fernet gently over the back of a spoon, so it floats rather than sinks.
