Strawberry-Rhubarb Mule

Using strawberry jam ensures this summery Mule can be enjoyed all year long.

By using jam instead of fresh fruit, bartenders at Atomic Cowboy in Kansas City are able to make this sweet, tart, zesty, and gently spicy crowd-pleaser all year long. “Jam captures the peak flavor of the fruit,” says Drew Shader, Atomic Cowboy’s founder and CEO, and versions of the cocktail have appeared on menus for more than 14 years. “The Mule is ripe for experimentation,” Shader says, in part because ginger is such “a bold yet flexible flavor that pairs well with so many other flavors.”

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka
  • 3/4 oz. homemade or store-bought strawberry-rhubarb jam
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • ginger beer, to top
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:copper mug
  • Garnish:lime wedge

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients, except the ginger beer, to an ice-filled shaker and shake. Strain into a copper mug filled with fresh ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
