A cocktail that works equally well cold or hot.
Paul Ramirez, partner and head bartender at Brooklyn bar We Got Company, started with a garnish and worked his way backward for this Sleepwalker coffee cocktail. “I set out to make a bourbon drink so I could utilize my mother’s family bourbon ball recipe as a garnish,” Ramirez says. “In the end, I decided to pivot to my father’s Mexican heritage and use tequila. We revamped the recipe and the tequila chocolate ball was born.” The drink was also originally conceived as a hot beverage, but it can be prepared hot or cold depending on personal preference.
Shake all of the ingredients with ice, strain into a glass filled with fresh ice, then garnish.
To prepare the drink hot, add the ingredients to a shaker and shake without ice, then pour into a warmed glass and top with 2 oz. of boiling water. Garnish.
Coffee SyrupCombine 140 grams of demerara sugar with 330 grams of coffee concentrate. Stir until dissolved and refrigerate for use within 7–10 days.
