Ranch Water

Ranch Water Ricky Cobia

The easiest cocktail to make anywhere.

Before canned cocktails, there was Ranch Water. Big Country Foods creative director and former bartender Ricky Cobia—as mentioned in the July/August 2022 issue—had worked on ranches in Central Texas for years. There, fellow ranch hands introduced him to the quick and refreshing goodness of this tequila cocktail. With only three ingredients, it can be made anywhere with little to no prep. But here Cobia shares two ways to make it: the cowboy way in the bottle or at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. tequila (Cobia uses Ocho Blanco)
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • Top with sparkling water (Cobia uses Topo Chico)
  • Glass:Topo Chico bottle or Collins

Preparation

In a Collins glassAdd 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice to the glass, followed by ice and tequila. Top with the sparkling water.

In a Topo Chico bottlePour out enough Topo so that there’s 3 oz. left in the bottle. Add the lime juice, tequila, and one lime wedge. Put your thumb over the bottle opening and agitate it to mix the ingredients.
