A Negroni-inspired flip imbued with nostalgic flavors.

To replicate the nostalgic flavors of an orange creamsicle in a Negroni, bar manager Drew Dahms of Dolly Olive and Bar Dolly add a whole egg and a homemade vanilla orange cordial. Dahms’ Negroni Flip is “creamy, frothy, and refreshing with a lingering bitter note from the Campari,” he says.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. vanilla orange cordial
  • 3/4 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. Campari
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 whole egg (pasteurized if you like)
  • 2 oz. soda water
  • _____________________________
  • Vanilla Orange Cordial
  • 3 cups fresh orange juice
  • 2 cups rich simple syrup (refined or turbinado)
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • Zest of 2 oranges (pith removed)
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla bean paste
  • Tools:shaker, fine-mesh strainer, strainer
  • Glass:Collins
  • Garnish:orange peel

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients, except the soda water, to a shaker. Dry shake vigorously until frothy, then add ice. Shake until chilled. Double-strain over ice into a chilled glass. Top with soda water. Garnish.
Vanilla Orange CordialAdd all of the ingredients to a pot and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes. After cool enough, strain through a chinois. Will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
