Maia From Martiny’s

Created by Takuma Watanabe, owner of Martiny’s in New York City, this cocktail showcases the floral, citrusy character of iichiko Saiten, a barley-based Japanese shochu.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. iichiko Saiten shochu
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz. yuzu juice
  • 1/2 oz. basil syrup
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:basil leaf

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients to a shaker with ice, then shake to chill. Strain into a chilled coupe, then add the garnish.

Basil SyrupBlend 2 cups of a simple syrup (1:1) with 1 bunch of fresh basil until the basil is fully incorporated. Note: A strong blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec works best.
