Cooking the jammy fruits helps take their perky flavor to a new level, contributing a slightly caramelized flavor that McLaughlin says is "just enough to not be overpowering" but helps "sweeten up the cherries even more." And in case you don't have a grill, McLaughlin says roasting the cherries in the oven at 400 degrees F for about 10 to 15 minutes will produce a similar effect.
