Demerara Syrup (or Turbinado Syrup)

The same proportions as basic simple syrup (1:1), this syrup swaps in golden-hued demerara or turbinado sugar for a deeper, almost caramel-like flavor popular in tropical drinks. Try it in the Barbadian Gin Punch Swizzle or the Prescription Julep.

1 cup demerara or turbinado sugar
1 cup water

Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, let cool to room temperature and transfer to a clean glass jar. Cover and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
