Curaçao Punch

First printed in Harry Johnson’s 1882 New and Improved Bartender’s Manual, this once-forgotten punch combines robust rum and brandy with an old-fashioned orange liqueur.

1/2 Tbsp. bar sugar
2-3 dashes fresh lemon juice
1 oz. soda water
1 oz. brandy
2 oz. Curaçao
1 oz. Jamaican rum
Tools: muddler, barspoon
Glass: bar glass or goblet
Garnish: Haigh suggests garnishing, “as Liberace might with all the fruit at your disposal.”

In a bar glass or goblet, combine the sugar, lemon juice, and soda water. Gently muddle until sugar dissolves. Fill glass with shaved or crushed ice, add remaining ingredients, stir well and garnish.

As printed in Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, by Ted Haigh, aka Dr. Cocktail. Published by Quarry Books.
