Brandy Alexander Milkshake

Brandy Alexander milkshake

A classic dessert cocktail’s milkshake aspirations realized.

In his book Milkshake Monday, author and TikTok sensation Larry Canam wrote how he was inspired by John Lennon to turn the classic dessert cocktail into a milkshake. The story goes that when Lennon first tasted a Brandy Alexander in March 1974 he “later said the drink ‘tasted like milkshakes.’” And considering the original is a simple mix of brandy, creme de cacao, and heavy cream, its transition to milkshake is seamless.

Ingredients

  • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 1/2 oz. brandy
  • 2 Tbsp. chocolate syrup
  • Tools:blender
  • Glass:12-oz. milkshake
  • Garnish:whipped cream, ground nutmeg

Preparation

Chill a glass in the freezer for 5 minutes. Add all of the ingredients to a blender, then blend on high until smooth. Carefully remove the chilled glass from the freezer. Pour the blended milkshake into the chilled glass. Add the toppings to the milkshake. Begin with a generous amount of whipped cream, and grate some fresh nutmeg onto the whipped cream.
