Brainstorm: A Classic Irish Whiskey Cocktail

This classic 1917 cocktail has been updated to suit contemporary tastes.

This classic Irish whiskey cocktail from Hugo Ensslin’s 1917 Recipes for Mixed Drinks has been adapted for contemporary use, with the French vermouth and honeyed herbal liqueur Bénédictine given greater billing in the glass.

Ingredients

2 oz. Irish whiskey
1/2 oz. dry vermouth
1/2 oz. Bénédictine
1 dash orange bitters

Tools:barspoon, strainer
Glass:coupe
Garnish:orange twist

Preparation

Stir all of the ingredients with ice, then strain into a chilled glass. Twist an orange peel over the cocktail and use as garnish.
