Angie: A Passion Fruit Gin Sour

During a visit to Panama in 2017, Bratislav Glisic, head bartender and co-founder of Dear Strangers in New York, had his first taste of maracujá, aka passion fruit. Enamored by its appearance and flavor, he decided to create a tropical cocktail to showcase the fruit. Using the classic Pisco Sour as a template, Glisic balances the sweet tartness of passion fruit with gin, elderflower, and lemon. The earthiness from a sprinkle of matcha powder rounds out the flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. passion fruit syrup
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. elderflower liqueur
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:Nick and Nora
  • Garnish:matcha powder and dehydrated lime wheel

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake to chill, then strain into the glass. Garnish.
Passion Fruit SyrupCombine 1 cup of passion fruit purée and 1 cup of superfine sugar in a pot and boil. Allow to cool, then strain. Will keep in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
