When you invert the traditional ratio of whiskey and vermouth in the classic Manhattan recipe, a softly sweet riff emerges. To take the concept a step further, Natasha David from Nitecap in New York City adds a touch of Branca Menta and aromatic absinthe. “I enjoy a reverse Manhattan as my perfect nightcap—when it’s been a long day, I’ve already had a glass of wine with dinner, and want something rich and comforting, a real cocktail, that’s a little lower in ABV to relax me and still allow me to have a restful night of sleep,” David says.
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish.
