Drink of the Week: Lagunitas Stoopid Wit

Lagunitas Stoopid WitRiding the heels of the year-round Hop Stoopid Ale, Lagunitas Stoopid Wit is the brewery’s new summer seasonal that characteristically plays it fast and loose with style guidelines. Dubbed “Belgian-ish” and “wit-ly-esque,” the unfiltered brew stacks Centennial hops on top of unmalted white wheat and a top-fermenting Belgian yeast. The result is a bright hop aroma and pleasantly bitter kick of an IPA with subtle hints of banana and the zesty characteristics of witbier. Rather than competing, the two seemingly disparate styles complement one another, with the lightly sweet, bready flavors of the wit perfectly balanced by the juicy, bitter citrus of the hops. They may call it “Stoopid,” but we think it’s pretty clever—and tasty.
