5 Events Commemorating Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is honored through countless conversations and events centered around the accomplishments and contributions of the world’s female-identifying members—which easily extends to those within the drinks community. This time around, we’re featuring five cocktail bars that are celebrating the occasion all month long.

Multnomah Whiskey Library

Portland, Oregon’s Multnomah Whiskey Library is embracing the spirit of community collaboration by teaming up with bars across the city to serve a menu of drinks crafted by female bartenders. Organized by MWL lead bartender Cody Mulcahy, the menu features eight unique cocktails created for Women’s History Month by contributors such as Katie Stipe of Voysey, Hey Love’s Emily Mistel, and others. $1 of the sales from each of these cocktails will be donated to abortionfunds.org.

Regarding Her Food

Regarding Her (or RE:Her) Food supports women-identifying and non-binary entrepreneurs in the food and beverage space. In addition to providing free directories of businesses led by these members in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, the non-profit organization is also hosting a multi-day event in each city. From March 3-12 (Los Angeles) and March 13-19 (D.C.), 30-plus businesses are contributing their efforts to honoring Women’s History Month, in the form of drink specials, ladies DJ nights, and exclusive cocktails made by women-founded spirit brands.

Big Bar | Alcove

Alcove Cafe’s Big Bar in Los Angeles is hosting happy hours throughout the month that honor women-owned brands. Each week features a rotating list of cocktails that use spirits owned by women, or have a female master distiller on staff. Big Bar is also hosting a female bartender night on March 13 from 6-9 pm, in which the women-identifying members on staff will mix drinks that were created in honor of those who inspire them. Guest mixologist Ash Miyazaki (Let’s Go Disco) will also be behind the bar that night, serving up a cocktail utilizing Los Vecinos Mezcal. The Dearborn

Female-owned restaurant The Dearborn in Chicago is also showcasing cocktails built with spirits from women-owned businesses and/or master distillers. Led by beverage director Sarah Clark, some cocktails are even named in accordance with their featured spirit maker, like Lesley’s Day Off (Lesley Gracie, master distiller at Hendrick’s Gin) and Catalina’s Harvest (Catalina Bentz, owner at Catan Pisco).

Abigail Hall

Year-round, Abigail Hall is themed to women’s history. However, they remind patrons of the mission annually every March through their limited-time seasonal drink menu called “All the Ladies,” which features cocktails named in honor of important historical figures. Enjoy beverages like the Red Gavel Punch for Ruth Bader Ginsburg or the First Lady, an ode to Michelle Obama. A portion of sales from each drink goes toward the Raphael House, which provides aid to survivors of domestic violence.
