This adaptation from Bar Agricole owner Thad Vogler of a classic from Charles H. Baker, Jr.’s midcentury works matches Armagnac’s richness with the grassiness of Martinique rhum, while a touch of lime juice adds an acidic bite.
1½ oz. Armagnac
½ oz. aged rhum agricole
1 oz. sweet vermouth
1 barspoon grenadine
1 barspoon fresh lime juice
3 dashes aromatic bitters
Tools: barspoon, strainer
Glass: cocktail
Garnish: lemon twist
Stir all of the ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish.
