Westside: A Pecan Old Fashioned

Westside cocktail pecan Old Fashioned

A perfectly nutty take on a bourbon classic.

For an Old Fashioned ode to Georgia, the home state of sushi restaurant O-Ku, bar lead Fabricio Andrade sweetens the cocktail with brown sugar pecan syrup, made from Georgia pecans. This cocktail and its caramelized nutty notes pair perfectly with pecan pie.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. rice whiskey (O-Ku uses Horyzon Spirits Blended Black Label)
  • 1/2 oz. brown sugar pecan syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Tools:mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:orange peel

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass and stir to chill. Strain over a large ice cube. Garnish.
Brown Sugar Pecan SyrupCombine 8 oz. of Georgia pecans, 6 oz. of brown sugar, and 8 oz. of water in a large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce to low heat and simmer on the stovetop for 20 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture settle for 10 minutes. Strain out the pecans and bottle the remaining syrup for the cocktail. Will keep for 3 weeks in the refrigerator if stored in an air-tight container such as a mason jar.
