Drink of the Week: Ale-8-One Cherry Soda

Long-known for its iconic ginger-and-citrus soda “The Original,” Ale-8-One has released its first new flavor since the company began bottling in 1926. The Ale-8-One Cherry Soda uses the same formula as the original for the base but adds a hefty dose of cherries to the mix (reportedly the favorite fruit of founder George Lee Wainscott). Sparkling and sweet with the juicy flavor of cherries, the soda has just enough spice from the ginger to balance the sweetness. Like an old-fashioned Shirley Temple, it tastes like pure nostalgia. $11/12-pack, ale8one.com.
