Absinthe Frappe

A refreshing mix of absinthe, mint and soda water.

The classic absinthe frappe is a refreshing mix of absinthe, simple syrup, soda water, and mint. At Drink.Well in Austin, Jessica Sanders adds a little lemon goodness to brighten up the classic blend. “Muddling the lemon (as opposed to simply adding juice) introduces some citrus oils along with the juice that I believe better balance the drink and give it a more pleasant texture,” she says.

Ingredients

  • Tools:mixing glass, muddler, shaker
  • Glass:frappé
  • Garnish:mint sprig, lime, or lemon wedge

Preparation

Gently muddle the mint and lemon wedge with the simple syrup in the bottom of a shaker. Add the absinthe and ice; shake vigorously. Strain into a Collins, highball or frappé glass. Pack with crushed ice and top with a splash of soda water. Use a barspoon to gently incorporate the bubbles. Garnish with fresh mint and a lime or lemon wedge.
