In the Sept/Oct 2008 issue, Ted Haigh wrote about Fish House Punch. Following is Jerry’s Thomas’s recipe for the punch from How to Mix Drinks, or the Bon Vivant’s Companion. “What’s interesting is the reference to “mixture,’ ” says Haigh. “In accounts of the proceedings of the Schuylkill Fishing Company, there were citations relating to Fish House Punch that mentioned ‘mixture,’ and I’m inclined to accept this recipe as the real deal (the Fish House members aren’t telling.).”
1/3 pint lemon juice 3/4 lb. white sugar 1 pint of mixture* 2 1/2 pints cold water
*To make this mixture, take 1/4 pint of peach brandy, 1/2 pint of Cognac and 1/4 pint of Jamaica rum.
Stir ingredients together in a large pot, and when ready, pour over ice.
