With a name that means “top dog” or “Godfather” in Spanish, the Mero Mero is the “prototypical agave-based aromatic cocktail,” says Gracias Madre bartender Jason Eisner.
1 oz. mezcal
½ oz. reposado tequila
½ oz. Cynar
½ oz. maraschino liqueur
½ oz. Punt e Mes sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
Tools: barspoon, strainer
Garnish: flamed orange peel
Add all the ingredients with ice to a mixing glass. Strain into a single rocks glass. Add one large ice cube. Garnish.
