This cocktail named for the former Minnesota senator and Vice President started as a variation on the classic El Presidente, with apple brandy and pear liqueur offering an extra layer of midwestern flavor.
1 ½ oz. apple brandy (Young Joni uses Laird’s Bonded)
1 oz. amontillado sherry
⅔ oz. curaçao
⅛ oz. pear liqueur (Young Joni uses Mathilde Poire)
⅛ oz. demerara syrup (1:1)
Tools: barspoon, strainer
Garnish: lemon twist
Stir all ingredients with ice to chill, and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish.
