Drink of the Week: J.K. Carriere White Pinot Noir

JkCarierre_2015 White PinotThe 2015 growing season in Oregon offered everything the notoriously picky Pinot Noir grape could want—consistent temperatures, warm days, cool nights and zero threat of rain during harvest. That, paired with excellent winemaking techniques—Jim Prosser has been making white pinot noir in Oregon since 2001—means it’s no surprise J.K. Carriere’s 2015 Glass White Pinot Noir is our Drink of the Week. The nose is surprisingly rich for a wine so bright and zesty, with lime, honeydew and orange leading to flavors of strawberry and tart stone fruit. The juice may have been pressed right away—relatively uncommon for Willamette Valley Pinot Noir—affording it little color and tannin, but this is not your typical, straight-out-of-the-fridge white or rosé. It behaves more and more like a complex Pinot Noir as it comes to temperature. 725 cases produced. $24, jkcarriere.com
