Drink of the Week: Steep Echo Olive Leaf Tea

olive leaf tea
Chances are you are much more familiar with the fruit of the olive tree than its leaves. But the greenery, which is loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C, has been used medicinally for centuries. At the Bel Lavoro orchards in Santa Barbara, California, they hand-harvest leaves from three varieties of olive tree and dry them for use in their custom Steep Echo tea blends. Naturally caffeine-free, the olive leaves serve as the tea base, offering a mild green and slightly nutty flavor with more backbone than herbal teas but without any tannic bitterness of traditional green or black. Currently producing five blends, Steep Echo’s lineup includes flavors like Hush with ginger, peppermint, lemon myrtle and a touch of maple, and Ascent with vanilla bean, cinnamon and monk fruit.
