Drink of the Week: District Distilling’s Wild June Gin

Gin & Tonic season is in full swing, and this week we’re looking to District Distilling‘s Wild June Gin to bring a vibrant smack of juniper freshness to our next round. As the name suggests, the distillery is located in Washington, DC, but co-owner (and sister of the DC-based owners) Molly Cummings, a biology professor at the University of Texas Austin, lives in Texas and spends her free time foraging for the juniper in the mountains of West Texas. Red Berry Juniper—a species that’s native to the Southwest—sings when supported by an earthy undercurrent of cinnamon, and a layer of hops in the botanical profile brings pleasing dryness to the bouquet. The gin is one of three the distillery makes, but thanks to its rich and expressive personality, we think Wild June shines particularly bright when paired with a quality tonic water. $20, pstreetwines.com
