Drink of the Week—Deschutes The Dissident

The Dissident 2015Today’s Drink of the Week is a staple of every serious beer drinker’s collection. The Dissident from Deschutes Brewery is part of the company’s special Reserve Series, and it’s always eagerly anticipated. It’s a Flanders-style sour brown ale that’s fermented with wild lactobacillus and brettanomyces yeasts and Oregon cherries for a mouth-puckering balance of tart and sweet flavors. It combines three types of hops and seven types of malts, and 18 months of aging (partly in pinot and cabernet barrels) creates incredible depth. This is a great beer for aging, and at 11.1% it’s definitely one for sipping slowly.
