Drink of the Week: Casamara Club Sparkling Amaro Soft Drinks

casamara club

Inspired by classic Italian bitters and sodas, Detroit-based makers Casamara Club created a line of booze-free, sparkling botanical beverages recently launched to markets beyond the Great Lakes region. Dubbed “amaro soft drinks,” the Casamara Club lineup features four flavors infused with an array of herbs and spices, such as juniper berry, allspice, sage, cardamom and anise. Each flavor also gets a boost of lemon juice, demerara cane sugar or honey, and sea salt to bring it all into balance. The finish of each is decidedly dry, with bitter notes front and center. The Alta, with ingredients like chinotto extract and mandarin orange peel, echoes the bitter red aperitivi of northern Italy, while the Capo, with chamomile, peppermint and licorice root, is smooth and refreshing. Each of the four flavors offers an intriguing botanical profile, while the low sugar makes them crisp and crushable. $36 per case of 12, casamaraclub.com
