Drink of the Week: Broken Shaker Cocktail Mixers

broken shaker cocktail mixersOriginating as a pop-up in the Freehand Hotel in Miami and now with locations in Chicago and Los Angeles, the Broken Shaker bars are known for mixing drinks with bright, tropical flavors. In a new collaboration with Williams Sonoma, the Broken Shaker cocktail mixers make the bar’s signature Caribbean flavors accessible with drinks that are a cinch to mix. In four varieties, the mixers are made with ingredients like cane sugar, fresh juices, citrus zest, herbs and spices, and they yield surprisingly fresh-tasting cocktails with the simple addition of a spirit and maybe a splash of soda water. The Chi Chi Collins combines spicy ginger with sweet watermelon and strawberry, and it mixes well with either gin or vodka, while the Havana Smash pairs rye whiskey with the perfect sweet-tart balance of pink guava and sour orange. The mixers can just as easily make an alcohol-free soda by simply mixing with seltzer. $16.95 each, williams-sonoma.com
