This variation on the classic Brooklyn cocktail is New York all the way, and when PDT’s Jim Meehan and John Deragon came up with it, they would have named it after a neighborhood in the original cocktail’s namesake borough, but they didn’t think the world needed another Park Slope cocktail. So they looked across the Hudson River instead and cheekily named it the Newark.

2 oz. Laird’s bonded straight apple brandy
1 oz. sweet vermouth
¼ oz. Fernet Branca
¼ oz. maraschino liqueur
Ice cubes
Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
Glass: coupe

Combine liquid ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe.
