A cocktail as poetic as its Shakespearean name, this potent sipper was named for the philosopher in Hamlet, who described himself as “more an antique Roman than a Dane.” With the Danish-inspired aquavit and Italian Fernet Branca, the name seemed all to appropriate to its creator, bartender and blogger Jacob Grier.
2 oz. aquavit (Grier uses Krogstad) 3/4 oz. Cointreau 1 barspoon Fernet Branca 1 dash Angostura orange bitters Ice cubes Tools: mixing glass, barspoon Glass: cocktail Garnish: orange zest
Stir ingredients, strain into a chilled glass, and garnish.
