After filming an episode of Tripping Out for the Cooking Channel in San Francisco, cocktail darlings Alie Ward and Georgia Hardstark created this sipper as an homage to some of the city’s favorite flavors.
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
1/4 oz. Chinese five-spice syrup
1/2 oz. Fernet -Branca
Splash ginger beer
Tools: shaker, strainer
Garnish: fresh mint sprig
Shake all ingredients, except ginger beer with ice. Strain into an ice-filled glass, top with ginger beer and garnish.
Five-Spice Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 Tbsp. of ground Chinese 5 spice mix. Heat until sugar dissolves, let cool and strain into a clean glass bottle. Cover and keep refrigerated for up to 1 month.
